Torreya L. Hamilton
Hamilton is a former prosecutor and former police attorney with 20 years trial experience.
Hamilton graduated from DePaul University College of Law in 1995. She began her legal career as a prosecutor with the Cook County State's Attorney's Office. During her eight years as a prosecutor, Hamilton tried hundred of cases. Hamilton has experience handling every sort of misdemeanor and felony that exists in Illinois, and has argued multiple times before the justices of the Illinois Appellate Court. Her extensive experience as a prosecutor, has made Hamilton skilled at obtaining the best possible result for her criminal defense clients.
After leaving the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, Hamilton joined the City of Chicago's Law Department as an Assistant Corporation Counsel. During her time there, she defended police misconduct cases - representing the City and its police officers in civil right's cases. Hamilton also designed and ran an office-wide trial training program for new attorneys at the City. Hamilton was promoted to Senior Counsel during her time with the City and was responsible for a high exposure caseload of multi-million dollar cases, as well as supervising other less-experienced attorneys. Hamilton's experience as a former police attorney makes her uniquely qualified to represent her civil right's clients.
Since leaving the City of Chicago in 2006, Hamilton formed Hamilton Law Office, LLC, and she has maintained her own law practice which focuses on the pursuit of justice. Hamilton is highly selective about her clients and cases, and handles every case as if it will proceed to a jury trial. Hamilton currently handles both criminal defense and civil rights cases.
In her own words...
"I love what I do. I have always been committed to seeking justice, and know my job allows me to do this every day. Daughter of a good police officer, my life experience has made me uniquely committed to exposing bad police officers. Former prosecutor and police attorney myself, my career path has made me uniquely qualified to represent the victims of police misconduct. I feel blessed by the opportunity I have to make a difference in the lives of my clients." --- Torreya L. Hamilton, July 2010
